Eve, the mother of humankind and wife of Hadhrat Adam was created right after Adam’s creation and from the same soil. Angels took soil of Adam and Eve from four corners of the Earth and their creation took place in the Heaven.
“It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might live with her in love. When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about unnoticed. When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, saying: “If you give us a goodly child, we vow we shall ever be grateful.” (7:189)
The story of Adam and Eve is narrated in three suras of Quran. The first Sura is Sura Al Baqara or “The Cow”:
“And behold, We said to the angels: ‘Bow down to Adam’ and they bowed down. Not so Iblis. he refused and was
haughty: He was of those who reject Faith. We said: ‘O Adam! dwell You and Your wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as where and when you will; but approach not this tree, or you run into harm and transgression.’ Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: ‘Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood – for a time.’ ” (2:34,35,36)
The second sura is Sura Ta-Ha:
“When We said to the angels, “Prostrate yourselves to Adam”, they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis: he refused. Then We said: “O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to thee and thy wife: so let him not get you both out of the Garden, so that thou art landed in misery. “There is therein (enough provision) for thee not to go hungry nor to go naked, “Nor to suffer from thirst, nor from the sun’s heat.” But Satan whispered evil to him: he said, “O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?” In the result, they both ate of the tree, and so their nakedness appeared to them: they began to sew together, for their covering, leaves from the Garden: thus did Adam disobey his Lord, and allow himself to be seduced. But his Lord chose him (for His Grace): He turned to him, and gave him Guidance. He said: “Get ye down, both of you,- all together, from the Garden, with enmity one to another: but if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from Me, whosoever follows My Guidance, will not lose his way, nor fall into misery.” (20: 116 to 123)
And the third sura is Sura Al A’raf or “The Heights”:
“O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish: but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression.” Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: “Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest ye should become angels or such beings as live for ever.” And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser. So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: “Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?” They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost.” ((Allah)) said: “Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time.” He said: “Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last).” (7:19 to 25)
There are some points about Eve in the Quran that I need to mention here:
1. Based on these verses, it is wrong that some people say Eve is created from left side of Adam and her creation was because of Adam’s creation. Or Eve’s status is lower than that of Adam’s. Instead Quran clearly says that she is created from same soil and in the same nature.
2. It is also wrong story that some people say Adam didn’t want to listen to Satan, but Eve cheated him to eat the fruit. They mean Eve was the cause of sin. But in Quran it is mentioned that Satan cheated both of them. In Sura Ta-Ha, God says that Satan cheated Adam and they both ate the fruit and in Sura Al-Baqara and Sura Al A’raf, God blames both of them and all verbs are Al-Muthanna which is used for two persons in Arabic. So in Quran, it doesn’t say Satan at first cheated Eve and Eve cheated Adam. “they both ate of the tree, and so their nakedness appeared to them: they began to sew together,” And later God accepts their Towbah.
It is a popular misconception that women are more emotional and men are wiser. But there is no basis for this in the Quran. Eve and Adam were both responsible for the sin and it is wrong and untrue to think Eve as a main cause of the First Sin.
Eve was the first woman in the world, who together with her husband created the human race which was the goal of the creation of the Universe.
